Al Jazeera America opens bureaus in Detroit and Chicago

Last week was the most momentous yet for Al Jazeera America!
We conducted a whirlwind tour of two of America’s greatest cities – Detroit and Chicago – where we met with members of the media, community leaders, students, business leaders and more. The response was overwhelming.
Everywhere we went, people were excited about Al Jazeera America, eager to hear more about our plans, and grateful for the opportunity to be included in our launch later this year.
While there, we also were thrilled to announce that Al Jazeera America will open bureaus in Chicago and Detroit.
Our Chicago and Detroit bureaus are critical components of the interconnectedness you’ll see in all news reporting on Al Jazeera America. We need our reporters to be on the ground where the news is actually happening, as what takes place in Chicago and Detroit has an impact on all Americans and communities around the world. Our strong presence in these cities will enable Al Jazeera America to report on the economic, social, political and cultural news that really matters to our viewers.
Chicago and Detroit were just the beginning. In the coming months we will be opening additional bureaus in 10 more cities and hiring the best of the best to staff them. No matter where we have a bureau, you can expect objective, balanced, in-depth reporting on stories that matter.
